Women in Business
The mission of the Women in Business Committee is to encourage women to expand their business contacts/opportunities by becoming active participants in the Chamber. The committee offers educational programs featuring tools to cope with business and career issues for women. It also assists in the recognition of women as valued leaders of the community through the ATHENA Leadership Award program.
Co-Chairs: Donna Broder, Card Solutions International and Joan Quittner, LegalShield / ID Shield.
ATHENA Leadership Award
The Chamber hosts the ATHENA Leadership Awards each September. The program is named after the Greek goddess of courage and wisdom and is part of ATHENA International, a foundation dedicated to creating leadership opportunities for women. Annually the Chamber honors an individual, a business and a young professional who mentor, serve as role models and display leadership and excel at their professions.
The Women in Business committee meets on the 2nd Thursday of the month, at 12:00 pm, in the Chamber Board Room. Bring your own lunch, unless otherwise stated.
One of the eight ATHENA Tenets is ‘Giving Back.’ The Women in Business Committee participate in two donation drives each year.
· SUMMER - The committee donates school supplies to the Belvedere Elementary School every August. The school, in which approximately 80% of its students are supported by No Child Left Behind federal program and receive free or reduced meals, serves the disadvantaged.
· FALL – The Committee has adopted Halle’s Place, a division of The Lord’s Place, which is a facility for young women recently released from prison. Halle’s Place helps these young women acclimate to society, reconnect with family and friends and find work to support themselves. The committee collects clothes, toiletries, bikes, children’s toys and shoes for the women who normally leave jail with just the clothes on their back. The items are collected each fall and distributed to the women just in time for the December holidays.
