Women in Business Committee

The mission of the Women in Business Committee is to encourage women to expand their business contacts/opportunities by becoming active participants in the Chamber. It develops educational programs featuring tools to cope with business and career issues for women. It also assists in the recognition of women as valued leaders of the community through the ATHENA Award program.

The ATHENA Awards are held in September. The program is named after the Greek goddess of courage and wisdom and is part of ATHENA International, a foundation dedicated to creating leadership opportunities for women. Annually the Chamber honors an individual, a business and a young professional who mentor, serve as role models and display leadership and excel at their professions.

The goal of the committee is to bring professional women together in a monthly meeting for networking and business education.
The committee meets on the 2nd Thursday of the month, at 11:45am, in the Chamber Board Room. Members can bring their own lunch or make arrangements to purchase lunch from the Chamber.

In the spring, the group holds a Spring Cleaning Closet Clean-Out and gently worn clothing is donated to a women’s organization and in the fall the committee donates school supplies to the Belvedere Elementary School. The school, in which approximately 80% of its students are supported by No Child Left Behind federal program and receive free or reduced meals, serves the disadvantaged.
